Thursday 12th March - walks *** – Hemley circuit – cloudy and
windy.
With the wind expected to gust 30/40 knots today I decided to give
windsurfing a miss, Mag did her early walk and there was a glimpse of a
sunrise but I gave it a miss. I did my exercises while Mag headed to Lidl
to stock up for our trip to the Alps on Sunday. I then packed a picnic and
we drove over to Hemley and parked up at the church where the strong wind
was blowing straight up the field but we forced ourselves out of the van to
put our wellies on! We decided to walk down the country lane first and were
sheltered from the wind, we soon spotted buzzards, a kestrel and a Marsh
Harrier. The path was fairly muddy so we definitely had the right footwear
on, we reached Kirton Creek and turned towards the River Deben, There was
someone out on the water fishing, not that pleasant in the gusty wind! We
were surprisingly sheltered from the wind as we headed back and we headed
out to the waters edge, the tide was slow but there was no waders in sight.
As we started to walk up the small hill I spotted a couple of deer behind a
hedge, they then appeared to our left 6/7 of them jumping over a ditch and
running off up the field but not before giving us a good look! Back at the
van we enjoyed our picnic lunch and spotted a male pheasant feeding in the
winter wheat right in front of the van, so handsome he was too!
